In the mid-range category, credibility is gained through exceptional performance and a high degree of functionality. There’s no better example of this than the THX Select2 Plus Certified TX-SR706 A/V receiver. With a certified amplification design and ability to process full high-definition audio and video, the Onkyo TX-SR706 marks the boundary between cost effectiveness and high-end functionality. Look to some notable firsts at this level: (1) The ability to scale all sources, such as standard DVD, up to 1080p video with the industry recognized quality of Faroudja DCDi Cinema™; (2) an efficient push-pull amplification design originally created for Onkyo’s high-end receivers; and (3) THX® Loudness Plus™ technology to maintain the impact of home theater even at low volume. To cap off a remarkable home entertainment component, we’ve also included RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) system control; advanced Audyssey room acoustic correction technologies; and XM® and SIRIUS™ Satellite Radio and iPod® connectivity options. To ensure that all mid-range and high-end A/V receivers in Onkyo’s 2008 line-up meet THX’s comprehensive performance standards, THX engineers spend countless hours testing and analyzing sound quality, usability, and interoperability for each model. This enduring relationship between Onkyo and THX guarantees even greater reliability and quality from certified A/V receivers. The 2008 range features two new THX standards: THX® Ultra2 Plus™ and THX® Select2 Plus™. These standards include THX® Loudness Plus™, which enables home theater audiences to experience rich detail and ambient sound in a surround mix at any volume level.

While new technologies come and go, the fundamentals of competent receiver design remain constant. It is best to think of it in simple terms: a power supply, an input stage, a driver stage, and an output stage that all combine to amplify signals without any loss in quality. The current that actually drives the loudspeakers comes from a power source via the receiver’s power supply. You can never underestimate the importance of the power supply, and all other audio processing functions cannot rule over good solid amplification. This is the direction Onkyo has taken with the Onkyo TX-8222. Built for those people who value the benefits of time-proven amplification design, the Onkyo TX-8222 takes core Onkyo technology—and an array of features you’ll actually use—to bring you a no-nonsense stereo receiver that will deliver audio and radio signals with agreeable quality.

This receiver is capable of delivering breathtaking stereo sound. It features XM/Sirius satellite radio capability, 4-sets of A/V inputs, 2-sets of audio inputs/outputs, Zone 2 output, individual treble, bass, and balance controls, Remote Interactive (RI) port, A/B speaker switching, banana plug speaker posts, and an AM/FM tuner. With speaker A/B selectors and dedicated speaker terminals, this receiver offers the capability to send audio to a second room. Incorporating Onkyo’s proprietary Wide Range Amplifier Design (WRAT) with an isolated power transformer and discrete output stage, the TX-8555 is focused on maintaining the purity of music, radio and video sources.

The Onkyo TX-SR576 7.1-Channel High-Definition Home Theater Receiver features Audyssey technologies that let you tailor surround sound to your home and ensure an enveloping soundscape. The TX-SR576 is capable of receiving and switching 1080p video, as well as processing multichannel surround sound via an onboard Dolby Digital Plus decoder. The TX-SR576 offers integrated system control with selected HDMI compatible high-definition displays, DVD and hard-disk recorders, and Blu-ray Disc players. With one remote control, you can control several functions, including Standby, Volume Command and Direct Change. Compressed music loses a substantial amount of bit information at higher frequencies, so the Music Optimizer technology works to overcome this limitation and enhance audio quality. With Powered Zone 2 and a Zone 2 line-out, you can enjoy surround-sound entertainment in the main room while you play back a completely different stereo source in a second zone equipped with an amplifier or a pair of speakers. The TX-SR576 gives you greater flexibility in choosing from a range of speaker packages. Its surround back speaker channels provide the ambience and effects for movies. In effect, bi-amping gives a more powerful, dynamic soundfield for two-channel music and movie sound effects.

When it comes to a decent mid-range receiver that does all the latest lossless audio formats with 7.1 channels, Onkyo TX SR606 is the best amongs the other receivers. My primary focus is on a system that plays audio for movies and video games as it’s primary function. With Polk Audio speaker setup at few different location and use the automated speaker calibration feature to enchance the sound, I’m very pleased with the results. Polk speaker and Onkyo 606 receiver match together extremely well. Some people complain about the humming, but to be hosest I dont heard any humming. The Onkyo TX-SR606 comes with few HDMI ports, the next generation audio/video cable which is a requirement for full resolution BluRay playback. So far I’m really satisfy with Onkyo SR606 performance, the model quite nice and sleek. You can’t compare this receiver with other mid-range class for movies and video games. If you’re looking for receiver for movie and video games experience, I wont hesitate recommending you to buy it.

Onkyo HT-S780 7.1-Channel Home Theater Audio System
Rating:
All too often, home theater packages disappoint – underpowered, poorly engineered, and over-rated. Onkyo has emphatically resolved these shortcomings with the HT-S780 7.1-channel receiver/speaker package. Just like you’ll find in Onkyo separate components, core elements – WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology), Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry, 192 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converters, a 32-bit DSP processing chip and an H.C.P.S.(High CurrentPower Supply) – provide the backbone for the home theater performance that is noticeably lacking in today’s market. Admirably supported by the 7.1-channel speaker system (an impressive package in its own right), the HT-S780 distinguishes itself as a home theater system for the mid-to large-sized family home.
